Professor Owen White

Neurologist

I am a neurologist with specific training in neuro-ophthalmology. This involves using a combination of ophthalmological and neurological techniques in the evaluation of patients with a range of neurological disorders. I have particular interests in multiple sclerosis and movement disorders but also more general neurological disorders.

As Director of an ocular motor research laboratory, I am actively involved in research using studies of cognitive control of eye movements in a range of disorders, including stroke, cerebrovascular disease, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and autism spectrum disorders.

Dr Ron Freilich

Neurologist

I am a Neurologist specialising in Neuro-Oncology, which involves the management of patients with brain tumours, and patients with neurological complications of cancer and cancer therapy. I also see patients with general neurological conditions such as headaches, multiple sclerosis, dizziness, stroke, Parkinson’s disease, and nerve and muscle problems.

Dr Judith Frayne

Neurologist

A/Professor Timothy Day

Neurologist

I specialise in Nerve Conduction studies and Electromyography (EMG) with an emphasis on diagnosing common and also complex neuromuscular disorders. These include: peripheral neuropathies, muscle disease, myasthenia and nerve injuries.

Dr Jorge Zavala

Neurologist

A/Prof Wesley Thevathasan

Neurologist

I specialise in the diagnosis and treatment of movement disorders including Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor and dystonia.

I run a multidisciplinary clinic at Cabrini involving a Parkinson’s disease nurse specialist, physiotherapist, psychiatrist and neurosurgeon. I have particular expertise in the use of botulinum toxin (‘Botox’) and advanced therapies such as deep brain stimulation.

Dr Wai Foong Hooi

Neurologist

MBBS Melb, MRCP(UK), MRCPE, FRACP

Dr Hooi is a consultant neurologist with special interests in movement disorders, botulinum toxin and headache medicine. He graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2008. He went on to pursue subspecialty neurology training at Cabrini Hospital, University hospital Geelong and Alfred Hospital, followed by movement disorders fellowship at Austin Hospital where he received further training on botulinum toxin therapy, device assisted therapy in Parkinson’s disease and treatment of other movement disorders. He completed the International Headache Society and ANZHS Headache master school in 2018.

He currently holds public appointments at Austin and Northern Hospitals. He is actively involved in the training of physician trainees and Melbourne university medical students.

Dr Hooi is also fluent in Cantonese, Mandarin, Malay (Bahasa) and able to offer consultations in these languages.

Prof Patrick Kwan

Neurologist

Patrick is a Professor in the Van Cleef Centre for Nervous Diseases, Department of Neuroscience, within the Central Clinical School, and Consultant Neurologist and Head of the Epilepsy Clinic at Alfred Health.

He is a medical specialist in neurology and an international authority in epileptology and antiepileptic drug development.

Professor Kwan’s research portfolio encompasses both applied basic science and clinical aspects to improve the treatment outcomes of epilepsy. His research is focused on understanding the effects of long term treatment, identifying factors that affect outcomes, mechanisms of drug resistance, identifying novel molecular targets for the treatment and prevention of epilepsy and translating research findings into the practice of personalized medicine for epilepsy.
